The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) recently unveiled the results of its 2026 Local Chapter Awards. The EAGE Changchun Chapter, co-founded by Professor Feng Xuan, Dean of the College of GeoExploration Science and Technology at Jilin University, and Associate Professor Hu Bin, was conferred the title of Best Local Chapter 2026 Newcomer. Professor Zhang Fengjiao accepted the award on behalf of the Changchun Chapter at the award ceremony held during the EAGE Annual Conference. This honor fully recognizes the chapter’s outstanding achievements in organizational development, academic exchange, student training, and international advancement.
As a globally influential international academic organization in geoscience and engineering, EAGE establishes local chapters to foster academic exchanges and collaborative partnerships among universities, research institutes, and industrial entities. Since its founding, the Changchun Chapter has leveraged Jilin University’s disciplinary strengths in geo-exploration science and technology. Centered on geophysical exploration, geological resource prospecting and related research areas, it has hosted a wide range of events including academic lectures, thematic seminars, and student sharing sessions. The chapter has built a vital platform for faculty and students to keep abreast of global academic frontiers, broaden international horizons, and sharpen their scientific communication capabilities.

This award exemplifies Jilin University researchers’ active engagement in the development of international academic organizations, commitment to disciplinary advancement, and robust track record of global academic collaboration. It also underscores the university’s fruitful progress in internationalized training for students specializing in geoscience and engineering. Moving forward, drawing on EAGE’s international platform, the Changchun Chapter will focus on cutting-edge research frontiers across geoscience and engineering. It will organize more high-quality academic events to further advance international student training, facilitate academic exchanges and cooperation, and elevate the global standing of relevant disciplines.
