2. GPR measurements to assess the characteristics of active faults in Mongolia.

报告摘要:

1. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a non destructive electromagnetic (EM) method, which is based on the propagation, diffractions and reflections of high frequency EM waves. It is easy to use and very fast to implement in the field. The applications of GPR are multiple: Geological study (sedimentology, actives faults,..), Archaeological study; Civil engineering study (voids); Hydrology and detection of buried objects. Different case studies will be shown in the first part of the presentation.

2. The GPR method (combined with paleoseismology and geomorphologic studies) has been proven to give good and useful results. It can help to characterize faults by identifying offsets of radar reflections and buried fluvial channel deposits. In the second part of the presentation we show the GPR results obtained on Emeelt and Songino faults in the vicinity of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
